New Niece

Monday, March 1st, 2010

The Straub family gained another member on February 16. Little Jorja Claire came at 8:04 AM and was 7lbs 6 oz and 19 inches long. Just a little peanut. We saw her again last night and she is still small and cuddly. I love that stage!

Lately…

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

Well, things have been crazy lately. Mostly good crazy.

Last Saturday started our race season for the year with the Irish Jig in East Grand Rapids. It was cold like usual and only snowed a little at the start. Jim did really well of course and I almost beat my best time – just three seconds slower. I am feeling pretty good about it especially since I have been training for the Riverbank 25K and not the shorter races.

So, the next race will be the Riverbank for both of us. Jim’s doing the 10K and I am doing the 25K for some reason. I have until May 9 to really make up my mind, but I am planning on it for now. I am up to 10 miles, so I only have to pull out 5 1/2 more… oy. :-)

I got to see baby Brennan and Chaeli last Saturday. What a doll! All of my friends are having such cute babies.

I am loving the warmer weather and sunshine! Keep it coming!

I’m baaaack!

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Here I am. I have plenty to write about, but I haven’t had the desire / time / whatever to type it out. I will probably forget most of what I was planning to write, but oh well.

For starters: the Grand Rapids Marathon. I finished my half-marathon in 2:23. I told myself when I started that the worst I wanted to do was 2:20, so I did a little worse than I wanted. However, at the end I had to tell myself to keep running and not stop and walk, so I consider it OK. My parents were able to come (they left their home at 5:45 AM!!) and cheered me on. Jim also brought his bike and rode along the route. I saw him 4 or 5 times, so he cheered me on and even gave me chapstick at Millenium Park. :-)

Me before – it was about 40 degrees – BRRRR!

Dad & Mom

Me with my medal… and luckily still smiling

Other great news: Lorens (pronounced like Lorence) Hansen Bishop was born on Friday morning. He was 6 lbs and 14 oz and was 19 inches long. He is so adorable. Congrats to the new mommy and daddy!

Other news: my trip to Burundi. The dates are December 5-17. I sent out a letter describing the trip and some details about how you can support me. If you didn’t get one and want one, let me know.

I have gotten the medical part mostly taken care of. I had to be sure my shots were up to date, so the Friday before the marathon, I got yellow fever (the live version), tetanus, hepatitis A, polio and influenze. I picked up my malaria and typhoid prescriptions and will start taking those soon. Oh boy! I better not catch anything!

I am very excited and nervous about the trip. It’s definitely a once-in-a-lifetime trip! My favorite part will be the 8 hour flight to Amsterdam… or maybe the 8 hour flight an hour later to Nairobi?? Just kidding!

Here they are!

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

Jonah James (little guy and on the CPAP machine (for breathing))

Noah John (now on the respirator and still a sprawler)

Their teeny tiny little diapers and Julie’s not-large-at-all hand….

Both boys are still under the lights for their jaundice, that’s why they have the eye masks on. They do open their eyes under the masks, though. We could peek in and see them…
Keep praying!

The boys are here!

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Identical twins, Noah John and Jonah James were born today, August 13. Noah came first and weighed around 2 lbs and 3 oz. Jonah came next and weighed around 1 lb 9 oz. I have to get the exact numbers again, but I am pretty sure it’s close. :-) Audrey is doing well and is recovering from her c-section. The twins had something called Twin to Twin Transfusion. You can read about it here.
Noah was obviously the recipient so he received a lot of the blood nutrients from Jonah. However, they actually decided to take the boys out because of Noah. His blood flow through the umbilical cord was irregular and wasn’t healthy. They actually said that if they hadn’t of taken them out, Noah wouldn’t have made it another week. So, both boys are now growing strong and getting bigger. They will most likely stay in the hospital until their due date, so that’s another two to three months. They of course have a long road yet, but they overcome the really hard parts already. Jim and I got to see them tonight. What tiny and precious boys. Praise God for two new beautiful lives!

Pray!

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Please pray for our sister and brother-in-law Audrey and Paul. Audrey is pregnant with twins that were due in October. She had an appointment with a specialist today and unfortunately, they decided to take the babies out today. They are only 2 lbs and 1 1/2 lbs. Please pray for safety for the babies and for Audrey and that those little ones grow strong.

Going to be an aunt again…. times two!

Monday, June 11th, 2007

You may have heard that Jim’s sister Audrey is pregnant again. Well on Friday, during a kidney ultrasound, she found out that she is having twins! She is almost half way through and just found out now! Apparently, one of them is sprawled on top and the other is in a ball below. They are waiting again to know the gender of the babies, so we will see what they are, but my bets are on the sprawling one being a boy and the bottom one being a girl. Guys are always sprawlers.

We all are so excited!
